The Hunter’s Moon appeared this past Sunday evening and early Monday morning, and I was in a farmland field by 5:15 a.m. to witness it. It was bright enough to cast shadows, and it light up the sky as far as I could see.

A Google search reveals that the Hunter’s Moon is a time of “letting go,” a time to release old habits, clutter, or emotional baggage that no longer serves you before the end of the year.

Its spiritual meaning notwithstanding, I love a bright moon because it understands how to be quietly beautiful in the dark.

Plus, I created my own moon shadow.

I read somewhere that where there is a strong shadow, there is much light. I momentarily wish I had had more light when I took a tumble in a field attempting to get the last shot in this post. This is not what the Hunter’s Moon means by “letting go.” I fell on my left shin and the palms of my hands. Shocked, I just sat there for a few minutes gathering my wits and determination. Then I stood and took my last shot of the Hunter’s Moon. No matter how long I had walked in the shadow, I was able again to come into the light. Kinda corny, but true . . . and I did not read it on a Snapple tea bottle cap.
