“Keep your eyes wide open before marriage, half shut afterwards,” said Benjamin Franklin. Was the movie, “Eyes Wide Shut” about marriage? (Actually, what the hell was that movie about?) Which of the following best captures the magic of marriage for you?

“The correct response is ‘I do’ . . . not ‘It’s worth a try.'”

#3

HAPPILY EVER AFTER: A place lacking all the drama and excitement that brought you together.

  • I’m going with cartoon #3, based purely on the marriage experiences of others that I have witnessed up close and personal and otherwise. I guess the same can be said for non-marital relationships, too, however, I suspect there is always drama in any relationship.

  • Humorous, but none of the above apply to marriage as I know it. I like to say:

“Marriage is a gas no matter who does the cooking!”

  • Ouch! Yeah well, I think its so lovely when it seems to work for a couple but also that that is so very rare. I also consider it very brave to TRY to make it work. I’ve never had that kind of courage or optimism.

    • Good distinction with “TRY,” Neola.

You are so honest about yourself. That takes HUGE courage, so in some ways, you have a pretty damn good relationship with yourself. xoxo

  • There is an element of truth in the cartoons and people are so much more complicated.

    However I enjoyed the laughs.
