“Politicians pay more attention to interest groups than to the public interest,” believed Alice Rivlin, an American economist and budget official who was considered an expert on the U.S. federal budget and macroeconomic policy. Rivlin died this past Tuesday at the age of 88.
How in the world does Rivlin connect with this week’s Ignite? This post features groups of things that appear to have their own interests. That’s a stretch, I know, but I admired Rivlin — who was profoundly concerned about the federal deficit which now totals $1.4 TRILLION. The cost of interest on that debt runs about $900 million EVERY DAY. Good Lord, do we need to laugh!
In the interest of full disclosure, I own a Coach handbag.
I like the sweet look on the sweet potato. I love the handbag cartoon. And, in the interest of full disclosure, I own a pair of Coach eyeglasses. xoxoxo
Coach makes eyeglasses? Where have I been?
Also, I KNEW you would like the look on that sweet potato. I nearly changed the caption to “Merrie Lee.” xoxo
Hope the Coach people don’t track you down, for surely they would despise having their bags referred to as the “lower” class!
That occurred to me, too, Beth. Here I thought I was SOMEbody because I had a Coach handbag only to discover that it didn’t bring me extra leg room!
As an ex-NYer, I have to go with the bagel cartoon.
